Week 10

  1. Technology is a big aspect of every individual today, technology is being used to make things easier and faster. Most technological inventions used today can help us find so much information within a few seconds, it’s a great invention. On the other hand, Litt describes the relationship between literature, writing, and technology to be a loss of touch. What I mean is that today, most people have no interest in literature because of how advanced technology has led today. They are busy playing on switches, computers, iPhones, tablets, etc, these are what keeps them entertained and are always keeping in touch with. However, Litt stated, “literature isn’t alien to technology, literature is technological, to begin with”, what he means by this is that literature depends on technology, also technology changes and influences literature in many different ways.
  2. I believe that technology affected my perceptions of more classical literature because due to technological advancement has opened a whole new world of materials and different types of literature. Before technology people had to find information through reading books, everytime I think about classical literature I think about wartime and writers who were truly able to express their feelings or different perspectives of the world. In high school I was reading classic literature, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the only issue is that I had a hard time understanding some things because of how It is phrased but after re-reading the pages over and over again, I enjoyed the book.
  3. Technology is disrupting the stories of today because we have so many advanced technological inventions, we are always on our phones, playing games and we are so occupied with these technologies, it’s affecting us by moving us away from truly getting a taste of classic literature or even ever holding a book to read.
  4. In my opinion, reading on a screen or through these various interfaces affect my learning/reading comprehension because I focus more when I am reading on paper, I can jot down notes, highlight and I feel that I perform better comprehension rather than just reading on a screen. I am the type of person who is hands-on, I prefer to use my hand to write instead of typing. In most of my class, I have to read articles and analyze, but it’s been difficult for me now since I am staring at the screen all day, which is not healthy at all, so printing out my reading or slides helps me concentrate better on my assignments.
