- Carr addresses how as time progresses, our reliance on technology becomes stronger and stronger. For example, the tragic incidents of the plane crash mentioned in the article. I would moderately agree with Carr because it’s good that we have advanced technology that helps us solve a problem but It’s not safe to rely on technology always because it only can do repetitive work, and may cause technical issues. As technology is evolving we should also be gaining new skills and knowledge as well so technology can be relied on for certain convenience. The plane crash incidents show us how we should rely on technology by keeping the plan control automatic even so It shows how we also have the unique skills to adapt, innovate, and creativity. What could have fixed this incident is placing someone who is highly trained and someone who doesn’t lack situational awareness. The captain was good to react quickly but he should have not acted alone and should have had his co-pilot also help him.
- I think improving the skills of workers matters the most because humans are unique, we have characteristics, emotions and we have the ability to gain skills, technology does not have those unique aspects as we do. Since we have this ability it’s good to make use of it, the more we know the better we improve.
- This does relate to the concern of technology taking jobs because If technology were to take our jobs, how will we make money to pay for our rent, food, and other essentials? We would just be at home and feel bored, our lifestyle would completely change. It’s best to have technology used as an extra hand or as a helpful guide instead of giving them jobs when people who are looking for jobs need it to make a living.
- One approach I can think of is to take over jobs that do not allow technology to take over. Technology should be controlled by the hands of humans to take a small role.
Bonus: I would say I do rely on technology significantly because now I use it to join my classes, chat with friends, do my homework and watch entertainment such as movies, youtube, go on social media and use it to store my personal information. I use it for various things to keep me busy but to also help me learn a new skill or to learn to make a new dish, DIY, or just something I need help on.
