The discourse community that I am going to write about is about fitness. The word I chose to use is “Gains.” Since the pandemic, I haven’t been able to go to the gym as much as I would like to. I decided to write about the fitness community because I enjoy working out.
Day: February 19, 2021
Discourse Community
The phrase I will be using is wallflower. The discourse community I will be targeting is my old Book Club. I want to discuss how I found a part of myself in a community that made me feel accepted and normal. A community that made me realize there is beauty in literature.
Discourse Communities
For my discourse community i will be talking about my experiences in volleyball and how i adjusted into my team just like how Dan Melzer adjusted into his music group. The word i will be using for my discourse community is “Team” because in my discourse community teams are very important and you cant do anything on your own. In volleyball trusting your team and playing as a group is very important.
Week 4
The discourse community I am writing about is video games or more specifically guilds in video games. I believe that some of the guilds I have been in that have been run by random internet strangers were the most well organized groups I had ever attended. If you have any questions you can ask your guild in game, my guilds all had discord servers that we would join and post news or strategize to clear an encounter. As a huge video game nerd I think this is something that fits the guidelines for what a discourse community is.
Week 4- Discourse Communities
The phrase that I will be using for discourse communities is “Cooperatives” or “Co-ops”. I will be referring to my own experience of being part of a such powerful movement here in New York City. How a group of people with the same issues (low-income) came together to organize and fight (hope this word is not misinterpreted, since last week was using so many times on the impeachment) for dignity jobs. I will also be talking about how cooperatives empower communities.
Latinix Discourse
The phrase I will be using ‘slow and steady wins the race.’ and the discourse community that I will target id the Latinix Community. Whenever I notice how common words, phrases and meaning come across differently for members of the Latinix Community I realize that I need a community that shares the same common interest and goals. Dan Melzer explains it best “you can write alone in your room, just like you can play guitar just for yourself alone in your room. But most writers, like most musicians, learn their craft from studying experts and becoming part of a community.” For example, members of the Latinix community want to communicate with others who share their goals and interest and worries on language comprehension.
Week 4 : Discourse Communities
I’m writing about the discourse community of people who are food lovers or also known as “foodie”. I will discuss how I was inspired by my cousin Tam who loves to cook and also just through the passion of trying different ethnic foods. I will mainly be talking about how I started to identify myself as one and probably bring up some possible stereotypes that are related to being a foodie.
Week 4 : Discourse Communities
For my discourse community, I will talk about being a foodie. I will begin with how my journey began and explain what differentiate foodie group with other food based groups. I can strongly connect to food especially during these tough times. Food has opened my eyes to many possibilities and connections with others.
Week 4: Intro to Discourse Communities
The discourse community I will be writing about is being part of the Kpop fan community. I think that most of Kpop fans are used to hearing certain phrases or words that not everyone knows the meaning of. When I joined this community I struggled to get used to these kind of phrases, it even seemed like a whole different language to me. The words that I will be talking about are “comeback”, “bias” and “debut”. I chose those words because even though they seem like normal words, for the Kpop community those words have specific and different meanings.
