Nicholas Carr addresses how as time progresses, we rely on technology as it becomes stronger and stronger. I agree with this because the pilot that was involved in the plane crash relied on autopilot to take control. The captain put his faith in technology for doing its job and to control the plane while he was chatting with his co-pilot. In my opinion, the pilot could have handled the situation accordingly once technology failed but his training was not shown to his full potential in handling this emergency. The pilot should be able to handle stressful events like this and not be dependent on technology to do his or her job. The crash would have never happened if the pilot was in control instead of putting the plane in auto pilot. We can fix this by having the mindset that technology doesn’t solve all problems or can handle important tasks because it can fail and lead to destruction. I think it’s a matter of improving both technology and the skills of the worker. If you keep improving technology and making it more advanced, it can lead to workers continuing to rely on it for any situation. However, if you kept improving the technology and the studies/statistics show that there is less possibility of failure, it can make people feel safer. Since technology keeps evolving, inevitably, a worker wouldn’t feel reliable in the works of technology but they shouldn’t keep their guard down either. The workers that have a job involving technology must always have a backup plan in case of failure and be prepared to handle any obstacles that come from it. I believe it does relate to the concern of technology taking jobs because many factories now own machines and don’t feel the need of hiring people to do what a machine can do faster. Since this is becoming more common in many other jobs, people are realizing that technology is taking over, and since it works we become more reliant on it. I do believe that technology is taking over jobs, such as factory jobs and phone operating jobs. I do think it’s wrong since many people lose their jobs but it’s inevitable that technology is advancing and companies prefer to use technology to their advantage. An alternative approach to becoming less reliant on technology can be to always be aware that it can fail you. The companies that use technology to do work have to be aware of the statistics of what can go wrong and what can fail to avoid any problems. Sometimes companies don’t care about these types of things and just go straight forward with purchasing advanced technology to save more money. By knowing all the information, companies can decide whether they believe that having this type of technology being involved in a certain task is worth it or not. Also, workers that are using any type of advanced technology should have incredible knowledge of what they’re using to avoid what happened in the plane crash. There should be classes on the errors and mistakes that technology can cause during the job.
